About this event

Come paddle and join a celebration of all the Cispus River has to offer!  After years of hard work by the Washington Kayak Club, American Whitewater, Washington Recreational River Runners, Paddle Trails Canoe Club and many individuals in whitewater community collaborating with Lewis County Public Utility District, the District has reopened the Copper Canyon Take-out with a spacious new picnic shelter, boat ramp, and gravel trail to the river and creek.

The WKC trip is meeting at 10:30 (intending to be geared up and leaving by 11am) at the Copper Canyon take-out.  We will be using the Twin Cedars put-in.

LCPUD's map to Copper Canyon has it labeled as take-out site  https://www.lcpud.org/recreation/take-out-sites/
.   Use a map as gps driving directions have frequently led paddlers astray.

Not a WKC member?  It’s a great time to become one.

There will be a BBQ on Saturday afternoon in the new picnic shelter at the Copper Canyon Take-out. Please register so we can get a count. Hamburgers and hotdogs are on the menu along with plant-based options.

Camping:

It is important to note there is no camping along the access road owned by Port Blakely.  Camping is available at Taidnapum Park downstream.  Informal camping on Forest Service land upstream of the Iron Creek bridge is available.  There are also private campgrounds in the area.

Options for your enjoyment Sunday include paddling the Lower Cispus again.  For those looking for harder adventures, the Upper Cispus, Superslide. McCoy Creek, and Yellowjacket Creek are all nearby.

It’s always sunny on the Cispus.

These activities are not part of the official WKC programming and are independent of the WKC. All participants are solely responsible for their own safety, decision-making, and risk management on the water. This includes—without limitation evaluating river conditions, assessing personal skills, using proper safety gear, and choosing appropriate companions.
