River Wood Hazards

Stilly's Canyon Creek Wood
Anne Brindle
New wood on Middle Canyon Creek as of 4/30/17 (Still. Trib., II+). Large river-spanning log ~300 yards upstream of 137th Street NE bridge, ~2 in. submerged at 6.3 ft (SF Stilly Gauge). It sits just downstream of a rapid that comes after a 180° right-hand bend, and there really are no good eddies between the rapid and the log. While solid class III boaters should be ok for a quick river exit if they know in advance where to expect the log, beginners would be smart to begin the portage before exiting the 180° right-hander and committing to the drop. See map photo on Facebook. -- Thank you Corey McCartney for this report.
