Come play in the pool

Kayak Pool Play is an opportunity for paddlers of all levels to practice and further develop their skills and safety techniques in a fun, controlled environment. Currently, there are pool sessions in Seattle, Shoreline, Tacoma and Tukwila from now into spring.

Pool sessions are for individual practice, and don’t include instruction. However, there are always fellow paddlers around willing to help if you're working on your roll, need some pointers, or just someone to spot you. There is always a hose just outside the door, and we ask that you clean your boat off thoroughly before bringing it inside.

Pools and times

Currently we have Sunday morning sessions at Foster Pool in Tukwila and Shoreline Pool on alternating weeks from 8:45-10:45am.  We also have Sunday morning sessions from 9-11am at the Tacoma Pool and Wednesday evening sessions from 8:45-10:45pm at the Shoreline Pool.  Kayak Polo and Roll clinics are held at the Evergreen Pool in Seattle.

Who can come, fees, etc.

Pool sessions are primarily for members, but guests are welcome.  The Washington Kayak Club is required to have substantial insurance coverage to rent the pools, and our coverage is provided by the American Canoe Association (ACA).  ACA requires that all participants in WKC on-water events be ACA members.  You have two options - join ACA for a year ($30 membership), or buy a one event membership for $5.  You must sign a waiver in either case, which doubles as an application form.

You’ll be asked to fill out our event roster with your name, phone number, ACA number, emergency contact information, and a place to check whether you're paying the WKC member or guest fee, and whether you're paying the $5 ACA event fee.  Please be sure to check off the appropriate boxes so the pool coordinator doesn't have a mess to sort out later.

Individual pool session fees

If you are a member of WKC and ACA = $8

If you are a member of WKC but not ACA = $13

If you are a member of ACA but not WKC = $13

If you are not a member of either club = $18

Fee details

If you aren’t a current member of the American Canoe Association (ACA), you can either:

1.  Buy an annual ACA membership. You can join ahead of time online or at the pool session. Applications can found at https://aca.site-ym.com/general/pick_username.asp, or you can get an application from the pool coordinator.

2.  OR Pay $5 per pool session and sign an ACA waiver/application, which is good for that pool session only.

If you plan on attending pool sessions regularly, it's a better deal to join the ACA.  One year membership through the WKC is $30 for individuals, $40 for families.  You can join either club at the pool session, or download the forms from this web site and mail them in with your payment. To join ACA on line, go to the ACA Web Site.  To get a discount, indicate that you are a member of WKC (a Paddle America Club) by choosing the promo code PAC in their online signup system.

Please note:  We are no longer including the ACA annual membership in your WKC membership signup or renewal.  Also, we are planning to phase out ACA insurance coverage and are looking into a policy that can be paid through membership dues.  IF you are buying ACA membership for the insurance coverage requirements, consider purchasing the daily event memberships until the transition is complete.
