One of the missions of WKC is to support conservation efforts related to paddling. We do this through support of American White Water, Washington Water trails Association, and the San Juan Preservation trust. Volunteer participation with these organizations is encouraged.
Get involved. Get inspired. Encourage others to participate. A small contribution of time makes a big difference to those organizations committed to protecting the waters we enjoy:
I would also like to see our club to be involved in community outreach. There are a number of charity races that need kayak support. Some of these are posted on our web site. Please try to volunteer your time as a safety boater, it is immensely rewarding!
Another unique charity event is coming up August 17 – the Raft Up! on Vashon Island. It would be wonderful to get as many WW and SK paddlers out as we can to help them set a world’s record and to support Youth and Family services. See the home page and the Event Calendar for more details. Tomas Tabisola has been kind enough to organize WKC participation in this event. He is leading a bioluminescence paddle the night before. Contact Tomas via the link below for more information:
I hope you are all enjoying a safe summer on the water. I am heading off on a kayaking adventure in British Columbia. Will share images and details when I return. If you have a story and images from a kayaking trip you would like to share with the club, please send details and images to our editor, Brenna McVety. She is happy to include them on the WKC website and in our next newsletter.
