Thank you to all who helped out and congratulations Class of 2016 graduates! We had 27 students and 5 helpers in the kitchen and 11 volunteer instructors.
The class went great with Friday night’s demonstrations on paddles, boats, how to load a kayak on a car, and how to fit into a dry suit.
Saturday we headed to Bowman Bay and worked on basic skills in 5 groups and then at 4:00 we were back at the camp to have a few lessons on Tides & Currents, Navigation, and a Flare demo
Sunday was the exciting day as we all headed to Cornet Bay and broke into two groups and headed to Deception Pass. The students got to play in an eddy, then slack, and a flood. They were able to ferry across to Strawberry Island and work the current.
All had fun and learned a lot. It was great weather and a little hot. All graduated who attended on Sunday.
I am so proud of all our students for their determination and grit.
There will be five classes coming up this year for those students to continue their training and learning how to be safe and have fun.
Thanks to all the volunteer’s for their support and service to this class and the WKC!
