The 2017 Beginner Whitewater Kayak Class was a success. Our students progressed greatly during the course - 7 weekend days in March. Three pool sessions, one lake/ gentle current day, and 3 river days. From learning wet exit, to roll practice, and to learning in- current boat control. And we suspect there will be quite a few who continue their river adventures!
This year was a challenge for the instructor crew due to the high river levels. Each week it was an issue to decide where we could go for teaching. As it was, we did the Club Stretch Snoqualmie twice at higher flows than we preferred. We barely got the Upper Middle Snoqualmie for graduation day! Our students were up to the challenges and did well.
Several students got river rolls, and more calm water rolls. Many wet exits and some bow rescues were seen. A great crew!

The instructor crew included Shanna Gachen, Matt & Nicole LeBlanc, Chad Coker, John Kelly, Rick Schoen and our guest instructors: Jon Almquist, Anne Brindle, Clea Hickson, and Dave Bowman. Our Helpers included Josh Wiseman, Jeremy Wells, Noah Compton, Jenn Coe, Will Eidson, Dave Rocket, and Susan Batchelor. It takes a village to raise a kayaker; thanks to all!
