Thanks for 20 Years!
Published on 1/10/2019
By Mike Grijalva
Thanks, WKC, for 20 years. I moved to Issaquah and joined WKC more than 20 years ago, and have paddled many days, with about 100 different WKC members. I've enjoyed them all and could not imagine a better bunch of boaters. We are so lucky to have the Middle/middle, the Green and Skykomish in our backyard. I have racked up many days paddling them every year. The Grand Canyon was also a special favorite of mine and I enjoyed a total of 17 times down the canyon and spent over a year on her beaches and whitewater. The first photo is my best trip of a lifetime in 2017, when I got to kayak the Canyon(instead of my usual raft run) In the photo you see on the left Andy Gross who I taught to kayak and brought into WKC. Our kayak guide Steve Mace, then Sam McMillen, my son JIm, digging out of a wave, and me on the right. I was 71 at the time and what a thrill it was to still paddle at that level. The next photo is me on the beach with my granddaughter Carmen, the youngest of our crew of 7 teenagers, and 13 adults. Thanks again WKC for keeping me in the sport.
