Downriver Play Day Clinic (Class III-IV)

This clinic will be taught by Michael, Zak, and Seth.

A combat roll is required!  The best boat option to bring will be determined by water level (play boat vs creek boat)

The clinic will be considered an intro day, where we will work on having fun in rapids instead of just getting through them. The day will consist of possibly multiple laps on a single rapid or lapping the entire section of river we decide to use.  We will focus on lining up and practicing our timing moves on known features, working on using eddies to break rapids up into boat-scoutable chunks of fun. We will begin to read features to play with, on the fly (what to look for while staying safe).

The second session, we will use our skills we learned on the first session to practice our play moves such as:
  • Catching challenging eddies
  • Boofin'
  • Sufing
  • Rock splats
  • Rock spins
  • Throwin' wave wheels
  • Brown claws
  • Paddle Twirls
  • etc.
If we have a good turn out for the first two, maybe a subsequent trip would be going to some area creek/river with good ledges.  Paddlers could see how downriver play skills translate to real creeking skills.
When:
Saturday, April 16, 2016, 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM
Where:
River TBD, based on river levels for play
