Do you use Washington State water access sites to put-in or take-out for river runs? Examples include the Plum Landing take-out for the Powerhouse, or Raging River near Fall City. Or perhaps you use lake access sites such as Meridian, Wilderness, or Fish Lake. The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) owns and/or manages boat launches at more than 100 sites in the state!

NOW is the time for you to have a say in how the Department will improve and manage these state-owned areas as they develop their 10-year Management Plan between now and the end of 2025. You can let them know what you think their priorities ought to be.

The plan will have a significant impact on the paddling community. Issues include but are not limited to: Maintenance of boat ramps, parking and toilets, signage, programs to reduce conflicts with other water-based recreation, addressing underserved groups, and integrating put-ins and take-outs with other recreation sites.

The King County area held an initial meeting October 30, 2024 and the paddling community was represented by Merkys Gomez with Washington Water Trails, Sam Westover with Paddle Trails Canoe Club, Tom O’Keefe with American Whitewater and Jennie Goldberg with the Washington Kayak Club.
