Sea Kayaking Trips

Wind and waves skills development
Author Last Post
Why are we being flooded with sea kayak trips in our e-mail? It is something like 50 e-mails with kayak trips each day for the last couple day.
We want to go look at them when we want to, not have them all e-mailed to us.
Please let us know what is going on and when this is expected to be fixed.

Count me in for events like this. Still a relative novice...
O O Denny Park, Kirkland, WA 98034, United States

This is a great place to launch from into Lake Washington.

From here its a decent paddle to the SR 520 bridge, where the waves can become choppy.

I think there’s an option that you can change in your account preferences as follows.

1. Mouse over name in top right hand corner of web-page after logging in.
2. Click, ‘Profile’.
3. Under, ‘Personal Info’ click, ‘Additional Membership Data’.
4. Check the boxes according to the emails you would like sent or withheld, eg. no - sea kayak, yes - whitewater.
5. Click Save.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Ditto to the above.

The Online Profile does not provide the ability to choose Whitewater versus Sea kayaker email threads.
As a whitewater kayaker I have been deleting these emails all day long.

Thank you for following up on this issue.

Still love white H2O for those who prefer rivers.

I think the reason you are getting the emails is there is not an option to reply directly to Dave. It might be how he set up the posting or how his profile is set up. I do notice the option for your post. At any rate, Dave, My husband and I would be interested in wind and waves, we're  south sounders like several others so southern venues would be nice. Please put us on the list.

Holy smokes, I never expected such enthusiasm for getting wet!   We already have a nice mix of newbies and pros to show you the ropes.

OK, our first exercise will be to hop on a plane down to Mexico, I hear they are expecting a bit of wind and waves this weekend.

I also encourage the mode of thinking that suggests we surf the length of the Hood Canal followed by a sleepover at Linda's house.

The forum is sending all your replies to everyone signed up, so I suggest further replies just be sent to me only.  I will set up a new forum for the rough water crowd and call it "Tsunami Debris", because we (hopefully) always wash ashore eventually.  I will try to subscribe all who have responded already, otherwise look for it and join the discussion there.

Thank you for the suggestions of S Sound venues.  These are unfamiliar to me, but I am willing t try them depending on level of interest for some particular storm brewing, or we can form two groups.

I also understand concerns expressed about going slowly.  This is why I like Alki - conditions are almost always calm on the beach, then you can go toward the lighthouse where it gradually becomes exposed, then surf back into the calm when you've had enough.  We will definitely accommodate your level of comfort.  The culture I want to develop is: eyes on each other and ready for assists at all times.

Purdy / Henderson Bay is good area, as the strong wind always wah kayakers to North side of beach.  Mountaineers practice wind clinic there.

I'm interested if I'm free on the day or days you pick. Always willing to learn, be guinea pig or help with herding cats.

Gnarly wannabees:

I would like to form a group of paddlers interested in practicing and developing skills in rough conditions.  Must be ready to go when the storm warnings are up, with possible venues including Alki Beach, Mukilteo, or Lake Washington.  The goal is to 1) become comfortable in wind and waves; 2) learn how to be quickly rescued in such conditions; 3) learn how to quickly do a rescue in such conditions; 4) have a blast surfing downwind.  People who have these skills hopefully will join the elite group of fine trip leaders that we desperately need.  I am looking for both novice and experts to share their skills.
Dave

I’m interested if the venue is either the Narrows or Point Defiance area.

I'm interested.  How about the Tacoma narrows for a venue?
Michael Everett
Practice this Saturday, if anyone is interested, I am in.

Good morning,
Count me in!
Chris

I love it. I'm in.

I agree with Katie. To practice on calm water first to make sure we're all on the same page sounds like a good idea.
I'm a novice and have no experience using a radio. That's something I'd like to  learn/practice as well. Sandra.
