Storms a comin'

Hello Debris,
  It looks like there will be a pretty good blow on Friday.  Alas, a work day.  However, if anyone is able to take off the latter part of the afternoon perhaps we can go out to play.  Once I know who is interested we'll work out a venue and paddle plan.  These will likely be fairly advanced conditions, so this practice would be suitable only for those who already have good boat control in wind and waves to two feet.  My guess is conditions will be a notch above that.
 
Throughout the winter there will be a variety of conditions coming our way and so intend to provide practice sessions for all levels of paddler.  The best strategy is to work your way up gradually to the big stuff as you comfort level and boat control increases..

Yesterday the weather gods issued a severe weather statement for Thurs-Sat (it was also in the paper today), perhaps anticipating one of those storms where the ground gets soaked then the wind comes and blows the trees down.  They seem to have backed off from that now, but the forecast discussion still expresses a lot of uncertainty and mention of strong pressure gradient yet only moderate windiness.  It is probably too early to determine the timing of any front crossing so they're not sticking their necks out yet.
 
Currently the point forecast for Alki has steady ~15 knot winds all day Friday.  If that is the case, or the winds stay in the range 15-25, my inclination is to do a downwind run from Lincoln Park to Alki.  If it is 15-20 knots then it would be appropriate for all skill levels, an excellent intro to those who say they are 'novices' as long as we have a sufficient number willing to serve as safety boaters (it loos like we do).  That plan may still depend on future forecasts.
 
I would tentatively like to say lets launch at 3 pm from from Lincoln Park (near the Fauntleroy ferry dock), there is an access road to the water and parking lot along Fauntleroy Ave.  This way those who can get off work early afternoon can make it.

Yep its going to be a big one.  Both the forecast discussion author and Cliff Mass sound downright giddy.  Check it out.
 
I've never seen a gale warning posted for two straight days before (due to a stationary front), so I am giddy too.  Winds are expected to be steady around 28 knots gusting to 35 according to the NWS.
 
The plan is to do a downwind run followed by some practice off Alki lighthouse, launching around 11am.  One possibility is to skip the downwind and join us at Alki a little later for the practice.  Launching at Alki is typically surf free and conditions can be regulated to your liking by how far you go out toward the lighthouse.  Contact me directly if interested, for details.

I'm interested in this trip. Just to confirm, I am scheduled to work from 8:30p - 5:00a in the Issaquah ER Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week. Also, would a wetsuit be enough for this trip?
