NF Nooksack River In-Stream Construction of Engine...
Author Last Post

From the project office: I would like to provide you all with a quick update on the temporary bridge installation over the North Fork Nooksack River near Maple Falls, downstream of Milepost 27. The second of the most upstream bridges (as shown in the figure sent on 7/22), was installed on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The portage options are not ideal for portaging around this bridge, so we do not recommend floating this reach of the river until after August 16th. The third, most downstream bridge will likely be installed by next Tuesday. See the screen shot below for the approximate locations for all 3 bridges (bridges are not to scale, figure for reference only).

Please be aware of in-water construction and low bridges over the North Fork Nooksack main channel near Maple Falls. Downstream of the informal river access at SR 542 at milepost 27, river miles 50.1 to 50.5.

Construction activities include construction of Engineered Log Jams (ELJ’s) on the North Fork Nooksack River near Maple Falls July 2022 – September 2022 as a part of the Nooksack Tribe’s efforts to restore stable spawning and rearing habitat to recover Chinook salmon populations.

Please be aware that bridges have been installed over the active channel as shown in the notification sign attached, please plan to portage around by exiting river left. In addition, please watch for heavy equipment, construction, and coffer dams (super sacks) in the channel. Large warning signs will be placed upstream of the bridges to warn boaters to exit the river. Please plan to portage around the project site.

Project sign including map is attached.
