Paul helped me nail my first 3 rolls - right in a row tonight!  Thanks Paul!  And thank you Cybil too (for the kayak roll tips and spots from last Wednesday too)!

Actually, I MIGHT make it tonight after all.  Just may not be able to make the Wednesday one in Shoreline.  Crossing fingers.

Paul, I don't think I'll be able to make it until next week.  I'm a little strapped for cash due to the recent kayak purchase so won't be caught up enough to make the trek out there until probably the next week.  REALLY wanna be there though.  Arg.

Ok, just grabbed a Snapdragon EXP sprayskirt at Kayak Academy.  It fits on the boat and myself very very nice.  Tried one prior that was cheaper and also made with a rubber seal, but it was so so so so tight I could only barely get it on once after much effort (although I hear it is easier once things are wet).  So I decided to get one that I could get on a bit more comfortably although it was more money.  

Went over the kayak last night with a buddy and kind of sort of got it outfitted and adjusted a bit.  The seat is now in the middle position (it was all the way back before).  Should work a bit better now, and be somewhat ready for some pool session this week.  I'm now broke and will be brown-bagging it for at least a while but it should be fun.  :)

Nancy/Paul - awesome.  I will try to come on Tuesdays/Wednesdays until my rolls are confident.  Who knows how long that will be but I like the idea of focusing on those in warm water with lots of light and kayakers around.  I just took mine to a slow section of stream 1 mile from my front door.  Padded up to some small rapids and practiced getting into a spot in a riffle where the kayak could kind of stay - and then turned around and looped back a few times.  FUN.  Didn't tip either - I thought these small kayaks would be more tippy.  I did feel like I was a bit far back on the kayak so probably need to adjust something.  But all in all it was fun to get the kayak wet the first time.  :)

What time are the Wednesdays?  I am an early riser…in the gym by 3:30 am, at work by 6:00.  Upside down sinus floods past 7:00 or so interferes with my REM sleep. (: (:

8:30PM every Tuesday. No membership required but you need a one year activity pass for $20 and then it's $5 every night. I also like to go to the WKC pool sessions on Wednesdsys to hang out with the members and tell lies about my latest river run.

Go to the WKC calendar.  There are roll classes for the next few weekends. I go to the Marysville YMCA pool every Tuesdsy night for their Kayaks in the pool session and work out. I'd be glad to spot you and its only $5.00.

Hello kayakers!

I JUST got my first kayak last night.  I live in Sultan, Washington - which is right on hwy 2 off the Skykomish and Sultan rivers.  I just signed up to the Washington Kayak Club.  

 

I just got a Pyranha S8 play kayak on craigslist in Leavenworth for $150 and could not be more thrilled.  The sum total of my kayaking experience thus far is sitting in this kayak on dry land for about 5 minutes.  

I'm immediately looking into roll classes in the area and learning all I can.  I know this is not exactly an ideal first-timer type kayak but I am sort of an extreme sport enthusiast in many sports and just thought I would this time skip all the beginner gear for this sport and go right to what my goal vessel would be even if the learning is more challenged.  

My prior sports include windsurfing, skiing/snowboarding, waterskiiing.  Presently I do a lot of mountain unicycling, and salmon fishing in the local areas.  But I have ALWAYS wanted to do whitewater kayaking, and love the surf and play kayaking - hope to do that soon after I learn to paddle.  HAA HAA  No seriously, I will be working on getting roll skills down ASAP and won't push my way into whitewater before then.  Probably will work on them in indoor pools to start - with some support.
