REI Boathouse Meydenbauer
If you‘ve recently attend a kayaking class or been working in the pool on rescues and paddling basics, lets start to practice and improve those skills while building up distance.
We‘ll paddle from Meydenbauer Park in Bellevue, stop at Medina to pick up a group, then north past the Gates compound to 520 and return. If there‘s interest, we can extend the paddle along 520. Total distance will be about 6-7 miles (a little more if we cross Lake Washington). Average pace in the 3.0-3.5 mph range.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and water conditions (50-60 air temp, high 40s water temp). Dry/Wet suit strongly recommended. Otherwise, a change of clothes in a dry bag. NO Cotton/denim.
PFD and whistle required. And of course your kayak. Unless you are a strong paddler, I do not recommend anything under 12‘ in length.
Food/water for a 3-4 hour paddle
During the paddle, we can work on improving our forward strokes and on edging. We can practice some water kayak rescue skills (or even rolls) at the end of the paddle if there‘s interest :)
START TIME: is the launch time. please arrive earlier to unload, park, prep and for briefing.
PARKING: Please park on the side of the parking lot away from the water.
