Pool Volunteers Needed for KIDS Safety Event
About this event
This year’s “April Pools” event moved to May! WKC needs volunteers for this KIDS water safety event on Saturday, May 20, 2022, Noon to 3 p.m. at the Tukwila Pool.
We need volunteers in and out of kayaks. Tasks include:
· Assist kids’ entry to / exit from kayak from the deck
· Helping kids on the water
They expect kids as young as six years old, so small kayaks will be best.
We’re looking for as many about 6 kayakers and their kayaks.
They want the kids to be familiar with safety, so all participants need to wear a PFD. A helmet is suggested because paddle control by young kids can be unpredictable. Bring a spare PFD to share with the kids if you can.
There is some dead time at the start, and kayakers may be able to play and roll, but please check with the staff first to prevent distracting the kids from other tasks.
Last year WKC provided a chance for 60 kids to paddle kayaks as part of a free two-hour water safety event. The kids, their parents, and the pool staff really appreciated our help.
We also need a WKC person (someone who did it last year?) to be the "trip leader."
