When the snow and ice are covering our roads and you need extra layers in Washington State, head south for 80 degree days and the best instructional kayaking you ever imagined.   Small World Adventures literally wrote the book on Ecuadorian white water kayaking.   Here is a review from fellow WKC member:

I strongly recommend Small World Adventures.  I went to Ecuador in early February 2019 for 7 days of boating.  My wife and I also spent a week on our own hiking in the Cotopaxi high volcano region.  I recommend Black Sheep Lodge.

The rivers in Ecuador are excellent. So many and varied runs in a small area. The water is warm, as is the air.

Don and Darcy have developed a first-class operation.  Friendly, welcoming, safe (on and off the river), comfortable accommodations, tasty and filling foods, great shuttles, decades-refined knowledge of local runs with day-of checks of water levels to decide which runs are “in” for the day, very safe run guiding (lead and scouting) and safety (three guides for our group of 9 boaters, appropriately selected runs to challenge the group without freaking us out or having us all swim simultaneously), huge boat selection, more hours of boating per day than I could always endure, with a shuttle standing by when I said “enough”, SWA hires many locals in the community to guide, shuttle and prepare food.

My wife came. She is a sometimes-IKer.  SWA took my wife rafting and R2ing, as well as took her with an SWA guide for land tours to villages and hiking.  My wife was present for all meals and did several day trips.

I found the price reasonable for all of the logistics Don and Darcy provide, the great food and comfortable accommodations.

I had heard very positive reviews for years about SWA.  My trip exceeded my expectations."
