Blake Island From Alki Point -- CANCELLED

Join us for a Blake Island Tour by sea kayak. We'll meet at Alki Beach Park, between 63rd and 64th Ave SW at 8:00 am. Park, Unload, Gear-up and be ready to meet on the shore to go by 9:00 am.

This is a 12 mile paddle around Blake I. I anticipate at least  2 hours to cross to Blake Island where we'll stop for a well deserved rest and lunch break. where there are facilities and picnic tables. We'll plan to depart Blake by 1 pm to return to Alki by 3 - 4 pm.

Note, this is a rather long, open water crossing. This implies multiple risks, such as no place to stop, vessel traffic, wind, waves from exposed fetch, navigation, and drifting apart.  Some items to mitigate these are radios, tow ropes, charts, compasss headings, whistles, keeping together, etc.

A pair of kayak wheels could also mitigate the weather by taking the W Seattle ferry back from Southworh. A prearranged car shuttle at Lincoln Park?

Bring hot liquids, soups, teas, hot chocolate, etc to have with your hearty lunch to fuel up for the return trip.
