Attend a WKC General Meeting. Learn more about the club. Meet fellow paddlers. And enjoy an evening with Dave Ortland and Bill Porter as they present stories and images from their recent kayaking adventures in Alaska.
Note: These are two separate Alaska trips!
Bill Porter paddled from Wrangell, AK circumnavigating Etolin Island. He will focus on the logistics and cost of taking a three week paddling trip to Alaska, and include interesting events and challenges faced along the way. His talk will include bears, the Alaskan ferry ride, rain, glaciers, rain, complex mirages, rain, porcupines, rain, Deadliest Catch boats, rain and noseeums......
Dave Ortland spent 2 weeks exploring Sitka Sound and the islands north. He will talk about the details of planning the trip and the challenges he encountered, including; shipping boats, making cabin reservations, dehydrating food, gathering gear, making a flexible itinerary, worrying about bears. Running from bears. Almost sinking. Tropical beaches. Days and days of warm sunshine. Sunsets turning right into sunrises while drinking tequila. And climbing a volcano.
If you have any desire to plan your own trip to Alaska, come and get some useful information. Or just sit back and listen to some great stories in a place where you don't have to worry about running from bears.
